Oh this isn't hard at all! 7th grader to the rescue!
n = 12 x 1/2, but we want to solve this, so, whenever there is a whole number, in this case it would be 12, multiplied by a fraction, 1/2, it is basically that fraction of the whole taken out. Not literally, like taking a half out of it, that would be 11 1/2. Back on track, 1/2 of 12 is what? Yep, 6. N = 6.
6 = 12 x 1/2
