What is a quality GPA for law school?

I have a solid GPA. Do admissions take major into question? I am in accounting and finance, but I know that my GPA would be nearly perfect if i was studying history or some type of social science.

    Hey Rickey,

Unfortunately, the GPA is going to weigh much more heavily than your major, and your major won't really come into the numbers equation at all.

Yes, it sucks for people with notoriously difficult majors (be glad you're not an engineering major). But it would be hard to balance every major at every school along with the grade inflation, difficulty of teachers, etc... There are just too many variables to have an intelligible way to balance everything, so law schools just expect everyone to excel at their major of choice and leave it at that.

As far as what GPA is 'quality', it depends on the law school. 3.0 would be the bare minimum, with 3.3 being the low end of acceptable (you can get in with a lower GPA, but you'll need something else going on). You can look up the GPA quartiles for any school at various places online. You ideally want to be above the 25% (75% would be great and, along with an LSAT at the same tier, probably get you scholarship money; of course, that also means you could have aimed a little higher).

    Good luck!
