Car won't start after spraying the engine off?
took the car to the car wash to vacuum it out and everything and decided to spray the motor off while I was at it, now the car will try and start but not completely turn over?? PLEASE HELP
okay, so now we've been able to get it started BUT now when we put it in 1st and hit the gas it stalls out. I understand it wasn't the smartest decision to spray it in the first place but I'm just trying to figure out what I've done and how much it's going to cost me. we've decided to let it sit overnight and completely dry out and try again tomorrow. thanks

Your description is exactly what happens when water gets in the ignition system. You may not have success simply waiting for it to dry out unless the weather is warm and dry. You may need to spray with something like WD-40 and wipe dry.
If your car has a distributor you may certainly need to remove the distributor cap and dry out the moisture that found it's way inside. The coil or coil pack if wet is another problem as well.

If you sprayed the motor directly you might have short circuited something. Check the fuse box for water.

use a good hair dryer and dry the plug wires, distributor or coil pack, and any open wires until they look fairly dry then try to start.

Check the distributor cap for water.
Source(s): @ Happened to me once, the cap had a crack and water got inside.
