What would I need to provide to HMRC in order for my tax code to change?
I've recently started a new job and I've come to realise the effect of the non cumulative tax code. This is my 3rd job in the last two tax years and I've only just realised that I was on a non-cumulative tax code both in my current job and also from May 2011 to the end of that tax year.
Is it a case of simply ringing HMRC to adjust the tax code or will they need proof of my older earnings first?

When the financial year ticks over the code goes cumulative.
What code are you on now?
If you think any earlier years may have been wrong then write to HMRC - all the info you can get throw it in, P45's P60's, names and dates of employers. Staple it all together (or use a good plastic envelope) and ask for a review from 08/09.
Get the letter in soon as 08/09 closes to new claims 5 April.

Send your P60 for that year to HMRC.
If you lost the P60 a duplicate cannot be issued but your employer can give you a letter showing the figures.
If you cannot get either write in giving your N.I. number and the places you worked that year and ask them to reassess your tax. You could phone but that means a lot of hanging on and waiting while they write everything down. I always prefer to write then they have everything to hand and I just wait for my refund cheque.
