Wanting to upgrade my smartphone?

Currnetly I have a Blackberry, but is not compatible with my new iPad. I am therefore drawn to upgrading to an iPhone but am torn between the iPhone4S and the new iPhone5

I would appreciate objective comments on the merits of each from those with experience of them.

    iPhone 5 & 4S comparison

RAM (random access memory, allows you to have more apps open and phone to run faster)

    iPhone 5: 1GB

    iPhone 4s: 512MB

Processor (interprets instructions and carries out the data processing)

    iPhone 5: Dual-core 1.2 GHz

    iPhone 4s: Dual-core 1 GHz

    Camera

    iPhone 5: 8 MP, 3264x2448 pixels

    iPhone 4s: 8 MP, 3264x2448 pixels

    Screen resolution

    iPhone 5: 640 x 1136 pixels, 4.0 inches (326 ppi pixel density)

    iPhone 4S: 640 x 960 pixels, 3.5 inches (~330 ppi pixel density)

    Weight

    iPhone 5: 112 g

    iPhone 4s: 140g

Both run the same software, so everything else is practically the same. iphone 5 will run a little faster, but the iPhone 4s will be significantly cheaper. If you use your phone mainly for internet browsing, music and calls/sms, and don't plan on having lots of Apps or heavy usage, the iPhone 4s will be sufficient, however, if you will be using lots of apps simultaneously, the iPhone 5 will be worth the extra buck. In addition, reports suggest the iPhone 5 is more durable, and it also features 4G internet, which is the fastest mobile internet available at the moment. if you are in the UK though, the price for 4G data at the moment is terrible, and not worth the money. Also, it is likely that the iphone 5 will recieve software updates sooner and for a longer time into the future than the 4s.

I'm looking at the specs now. There are some mini-features that are available in the new iPhone 5 but the main differences you will see are:

The 5 is taller but it has the same resolution as the 4S

Some people like the extra height but some say they don't even notice, so it's up to you.

4G LTE is only on the iPhone 5.

This is a major factor for me. I was skeptical about how much I would need 4G when I was upgrading my phone, but after I got 4G LTE I would never go back. The speed at which you load web pages, videos, and gps directions are significantly faster and you DO save time. The downside is the data package, which is around $30. I would get the iPhone 5 just for this feature alone.

iPhone 5 has no glass on the back. About 25% of my friends who have iPhone 4/4s have dropped them, resulting in the glass on the back being completely shattered. Not a good design. iPhone 5 does not have glass on the back

The down side of the 5 is you can't surf the 4G internet on the phone whiling making calls.

Downside of the 4s is that it has a reception problem when you hold and make contact with sides of the phone. To fix the problem apple sent out "complimentary" silicon cases to prevent contact with the sides. To me, this is still a flaw and desperate attempt from apple to keep sales up.

Lastly, if you are like me or anyone else, you're going to have this phone for at least two years. You want to get the newest iPhone available because of many reasons. Apple will give newer phone more support and the newer phone will be more able to handle the newest updates. I can see the 4S not being able to handle the iOS 8 in a stable and swift manner, when it comes out in a couple years.

You could also wait for the iPhone 5S/6 to come out, but it might be at the end of the year or even next year before that happens.

It's up to you ultimately. Go to Verizon ,or whatever carrier you have, and try each of them extensively. Personally, I would go for the iPhone 5. Good luck.

    Hi there,

They're both fantastic phones so it depends what features are most important to you in a handset as to which one you should choose.

The iPhone 5 is 28g lighter than the iPhone 4s, weighing 112g compared to 140g of it's predecessor. It also has a larger 4" screen, but the same 326ppi screen resolution.

The iPhone 5 is 4G compatible meaning you can take advantage of super fast download speeds, giving you an enhanced browsing experience. Both phones have the same 8MP rear camera and integrated Siri voice assistant.

Having owned both a iPhone 4s & an iPhone 5 i can say that features and OS wise they are fairly similar and so if you're not bothered about appearance and design, with cost being more of an issue the iPhone 4s would be a great choice as it is now over a year old and so has reduced in price.

However if you like to have the most recent offering from Apple with a sleek design and light weight than you may want to consider the iPhone 5.

We've got some reviews on our site if you want to take a look at the blog.

Here's a link to our iPhone 5 page as well to give you an idea of some of the tarifs and prices available to you which might help you in your decision: http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/phone/Apple_iPhone_5_1...

    Hope i've helped :)

Just go with threes classic iphone 4 unless you got money to spend. IPhone 5 and 4s are practically the same, they both can talk to siri and have better quality, iPhone 5 comes with a different looking set of headphones. But it's up toyou

In my opinion iPhone 5 is kind of a ripoff since its like the same thing with iPhone 4s but larger and a little more new specs but it's up to you if you want. I'll give you a site which show which specs is iPhone 5 better than iPhone 4s.
