How can I express the narrator laughing in writing?

I'm writing a story & I wanted to express the narrator laughing, the sentence I wrote was "I shouldn't of said that haha, but I wasn't thinking." & then I looked at it & said I can't write it like that, but I do want to express the narrator laughing sometimes while they're looking back at things they've done. Help?

I couldn't prevent myself from a soft chuckle as I replayed that moment/memory. I knew I shouldn't have said that, but I wasn't thinking properly.

Do you actually think "ha ha" to yourself?

Of course not. People only say "ha ha" when they're being sarcastic or ironic.

Just have the narrator say he laughed.
