Are the Falcons finished now that they've released their only defensive stars?
Okay, so releasing Michael Turner made since. His skills have declined and his contract was a massive anchor. But Robinson and Abraham were two of their three talented players on defense. With both of them leaving, that leaves the Falcons defense in absolute shambles, dropping them to 32nd in the league, defensively. I have a lot of respect for Nolan as a defensive mind, but he can't do anything with the talentless schmucks that remain on defense for the Falcons.

I doubt it. Robinson can easily be replaced, he's a mediocre CB and if Grimes re-signs and returns to form, they'll be better off. Abraham will be hard to replace but lately the draft has produced good pass rushers, so maybe they can get lucky there. And this gives then more cap room to improve their defense. 32nd in the league? Nobody's D is worse than the Saints.

Abraham has been garbage for the last 3+ years! On top of that he's 34 turning 35. Do you even watch football? Stephen Nichols, Thomas DeCoud and Asante Samuel are your best players on defense. Dunta Robinson hasn't been a productive cover corner since he left Houston. He does make a lot of tackles tho. Clearly the falcons can't get to the Super Bowl. Clearly not the offenses fault. Therefore you get better on defense. By releasing your expensive players who are doing what any average football player can do.

Teams releasing stars now is not always a sign they are done with them. Could be if no other teams jump on them the Falcons can resign them for less money. Abraham is making big bucks and is often injured, not a huge loss.
