The answer is going to depend on the state where you are trying to title the vehicle. In some states you can get a bonded title, in others the only way that you will get a title to that vehicle is with a court order.

The person who purchased the car from the titled owner should have titled the vehicle in their name, and you should not have purchased the vehicle from them without that title. Right now you are in a bad situation

Depending on the value of the car, you may want to try to sell parts off of it, and take the loss

You just bought a car from a person who is unable to prove that he legally owns it to begin with. This opens you up to all sorts of potential problems, not the least of which is that in the eyes of the law, owner number 1 is still the person who owns the car. If you can get your money back, do it. Threaten to sue owner 2 for fraud if that's what it takes. Trying to straighten out this mess is not going to be worth it unless you bought a very valuable vehicle at an excellent price.

It is really simple --- the other clowns are idiots......

Go to your local tag office or DMV and ask them which company is licensed to sell "title bonds" in your county or state. The title bond is approx $150 plus a percentage of the value of the vehicle.

Buy the bond (and they may require you to get it checked by the police) and then you can get it titled in your name (as long as there are no bank liens or stolen)

You may not like hearing this but it's really the best way to go.

It's time to call in the lawyers or try to get your money back.
