Why are people getting so offended over the Harlem Shake videos?

There's people who find different things offensive with everything. You can't make every one happy and this honestly sounds like a "planted" letter to the editor. Do you know how many things offend me everyday? Do you know I'm sick of people saying (like in a previous question) how Whites stripped blacks of their native language thru slavery? Um these people admit they were born and raised here, no one stripped them of their language. They were born here. Their parents spoke English, their grandparents spoke English....but yeah, let's keep pretending that it's the white mans fault.... which this has nothing to do with you, I'm completely agreeing with you. I'm just saying I'm offended by the fact that many people still think I'm as guilty as a slave owner. I don't run around writing letters to newspapers about it. I'm just sick of hearing how offensive things are and it's a white dude who wrote that letter.

I'm not black but I can definitely see why some black people might find the Harlem Shake videos offensive. Everyone has their own opinion and while some might find something extremely insulting, some may not. I'm Asian and when I see something mocking my people that is "done all in good fun" I do get offended. Just because you aren't offended, doesn't mean other people should not be allowed to.

I always am fascinated with white avatars that have to say they are black...dead giveaway that they are not..but anyhoo...what they keep posting is not the Harlem Shake but poor bastardizations of spastic folks with no sense of rhythm writhing about as if they are hearing a completely different beat in their heads..also some of them have had a strong sexual component and that was not what Diddy and the other rappers were trying to convey..so as usual these folks take something black and run it through the Pat Boone whitenizer destroying the original look and intent...smdh.

I agree with you so much on this point you're trying to make. I mean I don't think these people were trying to offend anyone by doing this. And I even if they were so what? what ever happened to Freedom in this country?

Do you see now why so many people hate liberals and their PC agenda. If you or anyone else were to make a video making fun of white people I wouldn't care. I don't at people with the same skin color as me as my family nor do I think that we're entitled to not have our feelings hurt. You are so right on with this one, you brought a tear to my eye.

I've seen so many paradoies of the Harlem shake on Youtubes, they are funny and none of them were racists.

I guess people in Harlem took offense that other people are making fun of their dancing skills and style of dancing.

Maybe the fact it's an old dance that was taken by a non-black person (I think he was Hispanic?) and bastardized offends some.

I haven't seen it but it annoys me everyone is talking about it. Its a fade like gangnam style, it will go out soon
