Why is marijuana illegal?

Marijuana is a variety of the hemp plant. Back in the 1930s many people were thinking of making paper from hemp fiber instead of wood. William Randolph Hearst had invested heavilly in forest land. He had plans to make paper with those trees, so to protect his investment he got hemp outlawed.

It was deemed illegal when HEMP was being discovered as a source-material.

Especially the lumber-industry was very fearful of how Hemp-paper would replace 'Wood-paper', because it was cheaper, and easier to produce.

The Paper-industry, and Tobacco-industry then decided it was too big of a risk to allow Hemp/Marijuana to become an option.

Follow the money trail. It's obvious why it's illegal. Cannabis can compete with oil companies, pharmaceutical companies and timber industries. Policing this diversely beneficial plant is worth 100s of billions in government funding and prison profiteering. Prohibition has nothing to do with associated dangers of marijuana. Nor has it ever stopped anyone from getting high, even people in jail.

Basically because drug dealers make more money from it being illegal, they aren't taxed so they can use this extra money to pay off politicians who do there utmost best to stop it from being legalized and also big time drug dealers from being prosecuted

A big money maker for court systems. It is also abused. Like any other medicine it has a specific dosage. Many use too much.

Its a drug that makes those people who smoke it ill.Some-times even adults have to be protected from themselves.
