    What is Beer's law

    If a beam of monochromatic light with radiant power Po is directed at a sample solution. Some of the incident light on the soln will get absorbed by the soln. If P is the radiant power of the beam of radiation leaving the sample then the absorbance of light by the soln is given by following relationship.

    Aborbance or A = log10 P0 / P

    According to Beer's law

    ' A ' is directly proportional to the path length ( b ) of the soln in cm through which light is passing and the concentration ( c ) of the compound in solution, expressed in mol L-1

    A = ebc

    e is the molar absorbtivity with units of L mol-1 cm-1

    If we plot absorbance against concentration, we will get a straight line passing through the origin.The linear relationship between concentration and absorbance is also simple and straightforward and can be presented in graphical form. The straight line will pass through origin.

    Hope this helps,
