science question! possibly air pressure?

when you take a container of water and turn it upside down with a note card as the "lid" tou n let go of the note card (upside down) and no water comes out. why? help! air pressure maybe?

    You are on the right track. Atmospheric air pressure holds the card in place and the surface tension of the water creates an air-tight seal to the container.
