Why do people ask questions on here that could be better answered by googling, binging, or using Yahoo search?

I'm just curious. Some of the answers they get on here are pure b.s. Are they doing it for laughs, or does it just not occur to them?

Update:

I know this question has been asked before, and I'm not calling anyone stupid. I worry for the person asking. If its a fluff question, or a request to do a person's entire homework, or obviously a troll, then I have no problem with wrong answers. I suspect that some of the people who have asked this question, or variations of it, have trouble understanding why people won't take that extra step. I've seen people looking for clarification being informed that the gas giants are not planets, but brown stars. I've seen people being told that the solar winds don't exist. I've seen people being told that the loss of the moon would make no difference to life on Earth. And please, please don't get me started on the wrong-headed thinking that goes on in the Law & ethics and Law enforcement sections. I don't answer questions in sections that are outside of my strong areas, unless they are asking an opinion, but young people looking for clarification don't k

Update 2:

know that (sorry, got cut off)some people will answer anything, and when they go into school and swear blind that nothing will go wrong if the moon disappears, it won't stop them from getting a fail. When some one breaks into a house to steal their stuff back, that won't stop them from being arrested. I grew up before the internet, back when computers were warehouse size, so to me it seems unfathomable taht people won't take a few minutes to find what used to take me a few hours at the libray

i think it's partly due to the social aspect. You ask a question and someone who knows responds. They get to speak to a real person instead of searching for the answer silently and alone. There is also the fear that wrong information may be posted on websites and the mistaken belief that this site is filled with geniouses who know everything and are staring at their computer screens, waiting to give them their answers. A lot of people think there are experts on this site. Experts in every category including Wiccans who can cast spells, Astrologers who can predict the future and mind readers who know if that guy/girl likes them.

I'm just curious as to why this question keeps popping up here, when the whole premise for YA is for people to get answers to their questions.

Why SHOULD they have to use a search engine, which gives nothing but links, when they can come here and get a straight answer?

Why is that so difficult for people to understand?

Perhaps if you'd have Googled THIS question, you'd have seen that it's been asked literally thousands of times, but instead of searching for it on Google, you did exactly what you're criticizing others for doing, and asked it here.

I've wondered this, especially when people don't ask Google first, usually someone has already asked the question on here :/

I totally agree - either the questions are asked for a 'joke' and people crave attention or they're just stupid!!
