    4 l x+2 l - 16 = 0

    First you need to get the absolute value part of the equation alone on the left, and all the other values on the right. So, add 16 to both sides, then divide both sides by 4.

    l x+2 l = 16/4 = 4

    Now set the (x + 2) = 4 and (x + 2) = -4

    Now just solve for x in both equations.

    4 l x+2 l - 16 = 0

    4 l x+2 l= 16

    l x+2 l = 16/4

    l x+2 l = 4

    x = (4-2) or (-4-2)

    ∴ x = 2 or -6
