Downloaded update for iPod, instead of update I had to restore my iPod to factory settings?
I plugged my iPod to my laptop to update some songs on it. When iTunes was pulled up it said there's a new update for this iPod so I clicked "Download and install". After the download was completed it began to install then at the end of the installation period it said "Error occured during installation" and then my iPod was in Recovery mode and said I need to restore iPod to factory default settings and the only thing appearing on my iPod now is the symbol telling me to plug up to iTunes... this has unfortunately happened more than once and I don't understand why and it's really begining to piss me off especially when I have to spend all that time putting my music back onto my iPod...

Provided your music is in iTunes, then you won't need to spend time putting the music on.
What error message did the computer give (there's always a 4 digit code). That will tell you what the problem was.
Most of the errors occur because iTunes is corrupt - which can be down to your firewall settings or other software you may have tried to install.
So, first step is go to www.apple.com and download iTunes. Don't go into iTunes and check for updates, you need to download a fresh copy of it.
Next, install it. It will overwrite the existing installation but it will not delete any of your data.
Next, launch iTunes and make sure it is logged in to the same Apple ID as your iPod is using.
Now connect your iPod. It will go through the recovery process.
Sync it.
If, at the end of the recovery, it tells you it needs to update, then choose "Download", not "Download and install".
Make sure the download is successful.
Disconnect the iPod.
Reboot your computer.
Plug the iPod in.
Install the update.
Sync again.
