Will a beta kill a african drawf?

I want to get a beta and an african drawf frog for my tank as friends. They will be by themselves and was wondering if the beta will kill the frog?

The term "friends" doesn't apply to these animals.

Peaceful coexistence is what you're looking for.

    :-)

As to a betta killing a frog, I have not seen it happen.

In fact, I have not seen a betta be aggressive at all towards a frog except to get food.

That said, it really depends on the individual betta.

Some will be aggressive with everything.

If the frog is in the tank first, then you'll have better luck because the betta will be a newcomer with no established territory to defend. But honestly, I don't think they view frogs as a competitor for territory. Only other fish.

My concern would be making sure the frog gets enough to eat.

Fish find food by sight and smell.

Frogs hunt by smell mainly, and only see food if it is moving (live).

It takes a frog some time to find it's food, and when there are fish in the tank, there may not be any for it to find.

When I had frogs with fish (a betta, actually) I had to set up a cave type spot that only the frogs could get into, and use a tube that goes down into it to get the food to them.

Even the the betta hung around outside trying to get in until the food was gone.

I personally recommend frogs being in a frog only tank.

Also, you want sand, not gravel, because it will end up being swallowed along with food, and sand can pass through the digestive tract without killing the frog.

A bare bottomed tank would also work.

Bettas are natural hunters. But bettas are slow movers so depending on the size of the frog and its mouth, no its not a good idea.

You can get 2 small cory cats for a 5 gallon tank. The corys should be impervious to a single betta.

My experience with bettas is they tend to focus on something when its added to a tank , especially when they are in their own tank. They really are solitary fish, and don't mind being alone. I had a beautiful blue female in a 10 gallon planted tank a few years back. It was interesting so watch her swim around the tank and investigate each new plant or cave added to the tank.

I have kept bettas in community tanks, jars, ect . But the most enjoyable experience for me was that solitary female in a 10 gal tank.

i am not sure, there is always a chance as it really depends on their personality.

for example if you get an agressive betta then it will most likely take on anything in its path.
