Buying any violin on line of any quality is risky at best as there is no way to know what it sounds like. If it is used, you are in even a worse position as it could be beyond repair even if it looks ok. Just for kicks, I did a search for "violin" on Ebay just now. There were no violins under $200 that I would touch with a 10 foot pole (and I know what to look for). Training someone what to look for in buying a violin can take months, not just a few lines of text in a post. In general, if you pay less that around $300 for a new violin, you get what you pay for - junk. Most of the sellers on Ebay have no real knowledge of violins. You need to go to a violin shop to get a violin that is made with quality parts and set up properly. There is no "right one" for everyone, every violin, even those of the same brand/model will sound differently, so they need to be picked out it person. You can't trust the ad copy that most Ebay sellers use as it is just a rehash of the manufacturer and that is deceiving at best. Almost every violin I see in the low price ranges on Ebay and other internet places, just in the pictures I can see a number of problems with the parts and the setup. And these are the ones they choose to photograph, just think how bad the one you would get would be. The other day I responded to a post where someone had sent a link of the one they were considering for around $125. I could see at least $150 worth of work that was needed to make it playable for a beginner. Beginners need instruments that are set up better than a professionals instrument.

You can never buy the right violin off Ebay, sorry. You'll just get some piece of junk that isn't set up properly and will never sound good even if an experienced violinist plays it.
The best to buy a violin is at a reputable string store where someone knowledgeable can help you with buying your violin and for the price range you want. Violins should never be ordered online because you won't know what kind of sound you are buying unless you try the violin out for yourself or have someone play it to you in person. It will also be 'set-up' correctly to produce the best possible sound unlike a violin from ebay.

Ebay is one of the worst places to get a violin. About 99% of what you find there is cheap Chinese junk.
Looking for the one or two actual decent violins being resold there requires the skills of an experienced violin dealer.

Guessing it will be your first violin? From the few violin lessons I had, I think it would be better for you to go to a music shop with your teacher to look for the best one for you, or ask your teacher what would be a good one to get.

First be alert for counterfeit. Get to grasp the feedback of the person and it returns are feasible just in case they do not run with the money. Be sure the company of the violin is well recognize with the aid of learning. If you end up optimistic than go along with your intestine instinct.
