Why Can't Americans Emigrate Freely To France Since You Do Owe Us A Lot?

I'm always reading in this forum that Americans should forget about living permanently in France. That seems a little stingy.Americans saved France twice from the Germans in two world wars;rebuilt your country with the Marshall Plan;and kept the Russians out during the Cold War.Your soil is soaked with the blood of American soldiers.Seriously.If some of us want to live in France you guys should welcome us with wine cheese and flowers. Now I love France and don't want to belittle its people. But really you guys do owe us Americans a lot.

And you wonder, with THIS attitude, why French people are so snotty to you?

You couldn't belittle French people more if you tried.

You do realise that America owes its nationhood to France? And its independence?

Stupid, ignorant Yank that you are .... don't come over. Seriously. Don't bother. Stay where you are.

As said above, you have a slightly skewed view of France and of history.

WWI was not won by the US. I know your school books do not mention this anymore but the US helped but didn't win the war all by themselves. The (welcomed) infusion of fresh US troops allowed for a quick end but historians agree that by that time the Germans were on the losing side.

WWII included as well a few other countries. Did you know that D-Day troops included a few other nationalities, like 62%? (126,000 American troops and naval personnel, 201,000 from Britain, the Commonwealth and other allied nations). Or that Russia drained the Nazi army. We are thanksful, and still remember those days every year. And remember everyone.

A last small point, why can't I emigrate freely to the US since you do owe us your country and still owe us a few billions Euros as the US never reimbursed a penny of the money lent to them during that time? Unlike France which repaid every single cent - and interest - of the Marshall Plan.

Now, I don't want to belittle the US and its people but really, you guys do owe us French a lot.

But if you really want to be allowed to emigrate freely to France (or the rest of the EU), please send the US application to enter the European Union.

i don't think of usa gained the conflict for us, it extremely is a good distance from being an common equation. We have been being presented by the individuals for some time and had a lot of yankee pilots flying with us from the united kingdom until eventually now the U. S. formally joined in. We held the line and destroyed the Luftwaffe at a key ingredient nevertheless. not long after that the Germans made a extensive tactical mistake by invading Russia, and on the incorrect time of 300 and sixty 5 days too. The Russians weathered that onslaught with great loss of militia and civilian lives, then counterattacked Germany, ultimately pushing them each and all the earlier to Berlin. the genuine question could be, would Russian Communism be as susceptible is that it extremely is at present if it had not had to bow to the NATO (including usa) regulations of a thank you to chop up up Germany and the the remainder of jap Europe...

How about doing a little research instead of showing your ignorance. France is a signatory to the Schengen Treaty, this is a group of about 27 European countries which have got rid of borders to allow free trade and movement of the citizens of those countries. The downside for those of us who are not European citizens is that we cannot move to any of these countries, and can only stay in the Schengen Zone for 90 days out of every 180 days as a tourist.

These rules are not only aimed at Americans, and it's sheer arrogance to think that it is. It also affects Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, Singaporeans, South Koreans, anyone who is not European. I'm Australian and would love to live in Europe, but it's just not possible and I accept that.

And it's probably not a good idea to spout history without giving the whole story. Your War of Independence against the British would not have succeeded without the help and leadership of the French. That country owes you nothing.

    LOL.

So you feel deprived of something you really would like to do? My heart bleeds for you!

Or is it a rethorical question? It is that kind of statement that endears you lot to the rest of the world! Sadly there are many other countries that also have mopped up American blood. Are you going to beg admittance in Vietnam or in Iraq for instance?

I want to emigrate to America but since the USA find that my Arts degree from the Sorbonne is "inadequate" and "useless", I can't, even though I have relatives there, and one of my friends (also French) and a brilliant engineer who had obtained a green card and had pulled his American company out of the sh.t, was chucked out of the country when he was made redundant as his company was taken over by a bigger shark that no longer needed his services. That's life.

It works both ways. The era when people could simply up sticks and move to another continent is over, and most countries have immigration requirements that have to be met such as the ability to speak the local language and that of being able to bring skills and knowledge that is in short supply locally, and even though they have to leave at the end of their contract .

We paid back every cent lent to France by the USA with massive interest, whilst you owe us in lots of other ways and we don't expect anything from you.

There are limits to gratitude ....

France and North America are both in the visa waiver program, meaning you can come to France for 90 days without a visa. Now french citizen cannot just move to the USA either.

No country in the world will just let you move in without proper procedures.

[1] Us Americans owe France our country. Without France, the British Empire would have handed our a$$es.

[2] France owes YOU nothing. Did YOU fight in WWII? Did YOU design the Marshall Plan? Did YOU serve during the Cold War?

...and say your grandpappy fought in WW II. Sure, HE should get a medal. HE should get something from France.

YOU - NEIN, NYET, NON! YOU did nothing.
