Well most big games these days are made in C++ because of its processing speed and power. The API that you should use is directx or openGL, but you will have to learn a good bit of C++ before you actually use those. To get a C++ compiler the best thing to do is google microsoft Visual studios and download Visual Studios C++ 2010 express. All of this stuff is completely free! To start learning buy a book or use youtube. a couple good channels on youtube are called 'iam4eversmart88' and 'antiRTFM'

    good luck!

  • Though I am 13 years old, I am also interested in programming like you. I would prefer you should learn c++ and java first. It will be better to learn c++ first because c++ is 90% same as Java. If you learn c++ then you can quickly learn java. I am also learning c++ from starting 2012. You should download videos from http://thenewboston.org/tutorials.php . Here you can learn many programming languages like Java, c++, C, PHP, HTML and so on. As I am living in India and hope you too, you should also buy any tech magazine like Thinkdigit, Chip to be updated about programming and other technology related fields. You may also go to http://scratch.mit.edu/ as said earlier.

Hope this answer fulfill your question...!

A game can be many things and requires inventiveness more than sophistication. The answer, seriously, is just about anything. If you have some programming experience then you might try pygame:

If you have NO experience at all try scratch:

    I'd start with Java.

Here's a series about tile based games:
