What do the terms principiante, mezzana, indifferente and finale mean in late Renaissance harmony?

I tried a few dictionaries but to no avail.

The connection of this little lot with harmony of any kind isn't remotely clear to me, but posted without any surrounding context that was perhaps unavoidable:

principiante -- beginner, apprentice, neophyte, novice, tiro, rookie

mezzana -- (f) go-between, intermediary, [less flattering] procuress

indifferente -- indifferent, disinterested [many more shades of comparable meaning dependent on context]

finale -- ultimate, final, finale, terminal [ditto as preceding entry]

I'd say that, as with so many things such as these, it is essential to provide the context of the *actual usage* for each of the instances you've come across that effectively provoked the Q in the first place, particularly with so restricted a scope as Renaissance [whatever] as you have set -- time for a revelatory supplementary perhaps? ;-)

    All the best,
