If you want to start in the top league:

    1. Manchester United

Man utd is not for everyone but can be very fun to play with as you have a whole array of of different types of players. You can literally play any formation. I found it fun to sell the players I didn't want and just re-invent the team the way I saw it. I bought Salvatore Sirigu from PSG, Holger Badstubber from Bayern Munich, Arturo Vidal from Juventus, Axel Witsel from benfica (although his at Zenit after the squad update) Neymar from Santos (P.S. If you wait until January to buy Neymar, you could possibly get him for around 17 000 000 euros in stead of the standard 38m), and smaller players which I will still discuss. It is easy to sign and develop young talent through proper scouts as you have a lot of money at your disposal.

    2. Arsenal

Arsenal can be fun to play with if you want to reignite the glory of the gunners and create an unstoppable european force. What makes Arsenal easy to play with is the fact that most of their players are seemingly young and have a lot of pace. Again, I bought Neymar from Santos, Montoya from Barcelona to replace the aging Sagna in future, Steven Caulker from Tottenham, Boateng from Milan and Pjanic from Roma (to take free kicks). Adil Rami was also a nice acquisition from Valencia. Al Shaarawy is a nice young player to buy in your second season.

Scouts can play an important role again, although you might have to settle for scouts with a little less experience.

    3. Newcastle

If pace isn't your game, Newcastle is a nice team to play the physical and long-pass game with. You need to know what you're doing if you play with them though and you will not be able to do a lot of transfers in the first season. I sold Cisse to buy Hernandez from man utd just because I struggle to play with slower strikers. They have a lot of nice default players, especially after squad update, but there are definate problem areas. I bought Toulousse goalkeeper Ahamada after Krul irritated me; and Ahamada really paid off - quick responses, merely unbeatable.

Make sure you get one scout with a decent judgment rating in your first season and hold of on big scout purchases.

    4. Southampton

Southamton was one of the most fun as they are a small side with terrific potential. They have lot of young players who improve quickly and various options to play any style. I had to replace the aging goalkeeper (again Ahamada's name comes up), but Fabricio from real betis is a very good keeper and won't let you down. Also buy (or loan to buy) depay from PSV Eindhoven and play him regularly - in 3 - 5 seasons, he WILL have acceleration of 95+ and be tearing down defences all over the place.

Scouts will again be difficult due to restricted cash, but luckily you have many young players to start with.

    5. Stoke City

Not a team full of promise due to slow and physical players with low resell value, but they always seem to be on the end of a financial takeover which means you could go berserk and improve the team over a number of seasons. Again aim for lower rated players that develop quickly and cost less, don't spend the entire budget on one big name as he will probably just irritate you due to lack of quality support. After the first season, Mayuka is a nice player to buy from Southampton as he is very quick and clinical. Hernandez from Manchester united should again be considered as he grows a lot and can improve the side.

I like playing EPL as the stiff competition and promise of champs league is always fun, but if you prefer lower teams, Chesterfield is quite okay, I had some fun with Ligue 1 side Saint-Ettiene (although development is hard) and a lot of Serie A sides can be okay. Liga BBVA and Bundesliga are always a little 2-horse racey, but Bayer Leverkusen is okay too.
