Because the money made by selling the albums goes to every single person involved with making the album! For example -

    Music Producer

    Record Label

    Advertisements/Promoters

    Music Agent's

    Album Artwork

    Sound Technician/Engineer

Anyone else who helps with writing the lyrics or playing the instruments etc

You'd be surprised how many people it takes to make an album!

Lil Wayne wouldn't be popular if the label didn't support him. He wouldn't have sold 1,000,000 copies if it wasn't for the label. So, he's still making more money then he would have otherwise made.

    The label can:

    Ghost-write his songs.

Hook him up with other famous artists.

Help him tour/set up his tour.

Advertise/Promote him (This is surprisingly important).

  • Because you also have to pay to promote your albums. So a lot of the money will also be going to whoever helped him out. It's like paying dues, I guess you can say.

You have to pay a LOT of money to pretty much rent out a recording studio. You have to pay for advertisement and the record labels pretty much pay jack sh*t per record sold.
