Why do detectives where suspenders?

Every crime show I've seen, they all wear suspenders. Any reason why?

    No, they don't--and you mean "wear."

    They do so that the weight from all of the equipment on their waist belt gets transferred to their shoulders instead of their lower back. I'm not sure how the weight being on their shoulders is too much better than on the lower back.

    Most detectives have weapon, ammunition, handcuffs, radio, etc. hanging on their belts. They wear suspenders to hold their pants up.
