There were intelligent living things, but not as intelligent as homo sapiens (sapiens).
Some would say cats or pigs or horses are intelligent. There were certainly organisms of the past that could be considered intelligent, but not like humans. There is no evidence for an organism being as intelligent as animals that are living on Earth today (or in the historical past).
I don't believe Earth has been visited by more intelligent beings from outer space or that an advanced civilization existed millions of years ago. The evidence suggests otherwise.
