I'm going to get a septum piercing and I want to know will it hurt? What do I have to do after getting it? What are sign of it getting infected. How to keep it from getting infected. Basically all I need to know after getting it and before getting it.

When you go to a professional to get it pierced, he/she will know exactly where to pierce the septum. This piercing does NOT go through the cartilage, and is not a very painful piercing. Mine was pierced at 10g, and aside from a slight pinch and my eyes watering, it was the easiest of my piercings (labret, ears, nipples). Most people get their septums pierced at 14g (1.6mm), but I wanted a thicker piece of jewelry straight away (it's at 4g (5mm) now).
So long as you keep it clean and follow the piercer's instructions, an infection is very unlikely. An infection would show with redness and severe swelling. Piercings around the nose and mouth heal very quickly.
