Explain this NCAA Basketball thing to me...?
Headline in nytimes says "15th seed makes round of 16 for 1st time." How can that be? I know FGCU is an underdog, but doesn't 15th seed mean they were judged 15th best before the event? Or tell me what 15th seed means....

They were seeded 15th in there region, not the entire tournament. Since there are 4 regions, being seed 15th really means being seeded between 57th and 60th. When they say no 15th seed has ever made the round of 16 means, no team seeded 15th has ever advanced in the tournament past the round of 32.

They are just one of the last teams to get into the tournament thus 15th seed for a lack of a better explanation.
