Is Karl Rove correct about the 2016 GOP candidate supporting same sex marriage?

Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff under President George W. Bush and current Fox News contributor, says he can envision a candidate in the 2016 Republican presidential primary supporting gay marriage.

Is this a change in the GOP platform in order to win votes?

Yes. It is solely to win votes.

80% of the next generation of voters are 'ok' with gay marriage.

Rove, along with the GOP's PR brain trust, knows that the voting base with opposes same-sex marriage will always, always vote GOP no matter what.

However, if they can win over the 40-odd percent of non-partisan, unaligned Americans by taking a more progressive stance on social issues, they'll give it a shot.

    There's very little risk involved.

Their voting base may be over-populated with rubes.

    But, those rubes are reliable.

Yes. I can such a nominee too. And maybe the nominee will not support same sex marriage, but at least he/she will support civil unions with marriages being conferred to by churches. This could be a measure to attract support from religious groups as well as reassure same sex couples that the GOP would be supportive of their rights under the law. One can be conservative and at the same time support civil unions, because it limits government control over marriage.

While it is a change to attract votes, part of the problem the GOP faces is that younger voters, even younger Republicans are much more supportive of the LGBT community achieving equal rights. So the Republican party has to change in order not to be swept aside.

To be credible he would still have to distance himself from the Libertarian Koch brothers. May be he can do it. Take the party back from the usurpers! It's gonna hurt though! But then, what fight isn't worth taking a beating for if it is worth it for the people alone!

Partially..some candidates will support it..but the ones who do..will lose the primary and not be the nominee

Its going to take more than that. They haven't said anything about embracing others than gays. What really gives? Gays got all the money, That's what that's about.
