Kinda long, but please help?! Waitressing question, ect?

Hello! I just got a job at Olive Garden as a server. I'll be making 2.13 an hour starting out, plus tips (obviously!). I'll give you a little more info about the area and my schedule so you can get a better idea! The city I'm working in has only around 50,000 (Midwest area) so theirs only 1 Olive Garden, Red Lobster, ect. Not a whole lot of "nicer" restaurants but we're slowly growing. My schedule that I currently signed up for is: Mon-Wed the lunch shift 11am-4pm. Thur-Fri lunch/dinner shift 11am-8pm ( I think! Might be a little longer but I'm 99% sure it ends at 8pm so I'm going with that! lol) Anyway I've never waitressed before and now that you have my job/area info I'm hoping if you've served before (especially at Olive Garden!) you can sort of give me an estimated guess on how much I might make per week and if its enough to get a low income apartment and to live on my own? I am a part-time student at college and I have a son :) thank you for all you're answers! Its much appreciated!

Honestly, there are too many variables at play here to give you any kind of an actual wage earnings. By law, you will be making minimum wage (2.13+your tips) Multiply that (your states minimum wage) times the number of hours you work each week and you will get a rough estimate of what that weeks check will look like before taxes.

(This would most likely be a worst case scenario, but at least it gives you a base as to what you can expect)

Where it gets difficult calculating future earnings for tip based wages is some days you may only see $20 tips for entire shift, other times a tour bus might get in your wait section and you make $200 off 3 tables in tips.
