making a second access point?

I have a wirless netgear router that gives poor signal to my computer upstairs. i have been attempting to make a second access point using this wirless encore router. it just not working. walk me through the basics?

    Forget the paranoid superstition above....

    Disable DHCP on the second router and connect LAN port to LAN port with an ethernet cable between them. If you want to be able to move between the two routers seamlessly configure the same SSID (network name) and same encryption parameters (key and encryption method). However, set each to work on a DIFFERENT channel (at least five channels apart) so the the signals from each router do not interfere with each other.

    You don't. NEVER use more than one router on your connection. It will seriously slow your network and can cause conflicts which can disrupt the network or even stop it. And all your requests will be passed out through its' WIRED DSL or WAN port and get lost. You need a wireless range extender and place it between the furthest machine and the router and within reach of both.
