Is medical school worth it?
I want to become a psychiatrist, however, people are telling me that medical school isn't worth it. Now, I'm great at the main sciences that are required, however math is not my strong suit and I know I need a lot of calculus. I really want to become a psychiatrist but i also dont want to be wasting time and money into something that is too difficult. What should I do?

I'm not quick with math... and I got through medical school. Just don't go into anaesthetics as fast calculations are important, lol. Calculus is pretty useless in medicine... not even sure why it's part of pre-med. I'm vaguely aware of the squiggly line meaning integration, but don't ask me what integration is exactly. Yes, I passed advanced calculus in premed... did quite well if I remember correctly.... but never used it again so forgot it all.
Medschool is worth it as long as it's your choice to do it and no one else's e.g. mum, dad. Once you're selected into medical school, the general consensus is that you have what it takes and you can do it. It's hard work, but in my opinion totally worth it.

You don't need maths in medical school. There is a small amount of biostatistics, but nothing else, and you can go to medical school without any mathematical background at all.
As for whether or not it's "worth it"- that depends. Medical school is a huge committment and is very hard work. But it's also one of the most fulfilling and rewarding careers there is. So if you really want to do it, you'll love it. Otherwise, you won't.

Medical field doesnt require math. Life sciences like biology and chemistry are most important. Not math.
Good luck!
You can also consider a career as physical therapist, physician, etc. Or if you dont want to study for so long, you can choose to become physicians assistant or medical assistant too.

A. Too many shrinks as it is.
B. The Federales are taking over medicine.
Look for a field with less competition, that the government is not on the verge of royally screwing up.

Medical school is "worth it" if you want to be a doctor (including psychiatry). If you don't, then I guess it isn't worth it....

**** medical school! Teach yourself medicine and be less reliant upon half way houses.
