Why do gays often act like girls?

I've observed numerous times that gays are often depicted in feminine ways. They often show more empathy for others and also like the color pink and play dress-up. Why is this?

Well weather wearing pink and being compassionate is really a Feminine quality I will say not necessarily. it is natural for us to create schemas about people, but they tend to not be true most times. If you wanna go into a biological way of looking at this then most evidence suggests that sexuality is developed while you are in the womb and the ammount of estrogen and testosterone you get. The more estrogen the more Feminine, the most testosterone the more masculine. So gay people tend to be more balanced Between both hormones and so they present more traits from both sexes.

Not all or even the majority of gay men fit this stereotype, and a few heterosexual men even fit some of those feminine stereotypes, gender expression has nothing to do with sexual orientation, except that maybe some gay men don't feel as much pressure to conform to the useless gender roles of society, but the vast majority of gays really aren't more feminine, it seems more gays are feminine because feminine men stand out more/are more visible, and most assume a man acting that way is gay, whether it is true or not.

Aside from the usual "not all gays are like this" argument, I'm going to go ahead and challenge you to look for masculine gay men. You're already trained to look out for guys that don't act masculine, and question their sexuality - if they don't act like men, they're probably gay. And most of the time, it works - the gay men you meet are, in fact, effeminate or do womanly things. But again, that's because your attention is focused on finding the gay men that are effeminate. If you were to look for masculine gay men, well, they're harder to find, because you already assume that masculine men are straight. It's very possible that you have met a masculine gay man and not even know it.

To answer your question more generically, why would any gay man act effeminately - well, it's just who they are. I am not, by any means, the most masculine guy out there, I do have a few effeminate traces. But it's not because I want to be a woman or because I'm gay, it's just the way I am. I honestly don't even realize it most of the time. The same goes for men who are as macho as they come - they're not putting up an act, they're not like that because they're manly, it's just who they are and they really have no control over any of it.

Well, I'm gay and very rarely show empathy for anyone, I don't mind the color pink, just not my colour, and I've only ever put lipstick on and heels on, that doesn't really count as dress-up, I was 5 at the time. Not all us gays are the same.

It's probably just a stereotype. I went to a gay wedding and out of about 200 people, about 3 were effeminate and about 20 were straight. So the more gays are accepted, the more masculine ones you'll probably see because they won't be hiding it.

Well, obviously not all gay men are like that, some are very masculine. But homosexuality is a predisposition so a gay man might be born with more estrogen than a straight man. It all depends on the person. Even some straight men, who are confident in their sexuality are a bit "girly"

I hope you don't think that all gay guys act like that. We don't.

Besides, there are straight men like that, you know... and being in touch with your sensitive side is not 'acting like a girl'. It's being human.

The most scientific explanation for it that I can think of is that gay men have similar brain structures and functions to straight women, just as lesbians have similar brain structures and functions to straight men.
