No, it really works. I really smelled it. You should try refreshing 10 times, and wash your nose. Then, Throw your face at the screen. Its really great.

It's April Fools and Google always plays a prank on April 1st . It's more of a mind over matter thing. If you don't believe me go and click on a smell and then click not working. Then scroll to the bottom and it says it's April Fools.

After smelling something (or attempting to...), the box will say "Need help?" Click that and then read the ways that Google can help you. The last option on the list is "It's April Fools Day." Happy April Fools!

April Fools! Each year, Google "launches" a new product on April Fool's Day. They managed to fool you (and lots of people around the country) with this "new, revolutionary product". Google has the time and money to make jokes like this, and so they did. To restate, It is ONLY a joke, [although it seems somewhat plausible :)]

I was on guard already since it was April Fool's but I still bumped my nose against the screen just for the fun. I would have been more convinced the page mentioned that an external device is needed and that beta testers were being sought out by invitation only.

Long Answer: APRIL FOOLS DAY!!! It doesn't actually work. And there is one of three reasons why you can smell it 1) You have superpowers 2) You are very imaginative and therefore it is "Mind over Matter" 3) You are insane.

Google does this stuff all the time. You were April fooled, but don't worry, a lot of people were!

I didn't fell for it, because i just couldn't believe that smell can travel via internet. Only you can smell if you are near enough any substance.

But, if it is possible to "store" a smell in a device, then the idea of google smell may become possible.

Basically you would have an olfactory device in your home which has stored various smells (assuming that smell can be stored). You connect it to the computer. So, if you search for a substance, say a ginger, and you click on "smell" button. Then a link will be sent to the browser, which will then connect to the olfactory device and turn on the particular smell. You can yourself turn on the device and smell the item too.

This hypotheses is based on the assumption that smell can be stored.

Yeah, that was embarrassing. It hasn't been april fools day for more than an hour, and I already fell for something. I was so annoyed that it wasn't woriking, too. To make matters worse, I was afraid to know what Fear smelled like...I thought this was gonna be the next big thing: I am actually a little dissapointed.

I say it sounds like prank, no way will they make you put your nose near you computer or phone and be able to smell something. Not until the year 3000 that would be available I would say.

I nearly fell for that junk, until I noticed April 1.
