Can I install Windows 8 on my tower with my Laptop's verification?

Alright, I recently bought a lap top with Windows 8 on it.

I have an old PC as well that is running Vista. For some reason, it's been giving me verification requests lately. It won't allow me to use my old Product Key, so I was wondering if I could just install Windows 8 and use my Laptops product key. I purchased the Laptop brand new, so I bought Windows 8 and my old tower isn't letting me use my product key for some reason.

Would this work?

    Windows 8 is terrible. Windows 7 is wonderful.

    You can not run the same product key on 2 machines.

    No. One license, one computer. Call Microsoft Support about the inactive key.
