Eddie Machen 1960 vs Evander The Real Deal Holyfield 1991?
Eddie Machen went 12 rounds with Sonny Liston in Sept 1960, only to lose a unanimous decision. Evander Holyfield stopped James Buster Douglas, in 3 rounds to win the World Heavyweight Title in 1990. Who would win and why? 15 rounds.

Eddie might have went 12 with Evander as well, but Holyfield would have won 10 or more of them, Evander would have been far too talented for a slugger like Machen to handle, this one would have a tougher fight than Tyson gave Holyfield, Eddie might have lasted the distance where Mike got KOed, but Holyfield would have out worked Machen for the decision.

Eddie Machen was an enigma as a heavyweight fighter in the late 50s through the mid 60s. On some nights he could be very, very good and some other nights, he could be just an ordinary fighter. Hence he had some big wins in his resume and also some close, sorry and even unexpected losses A literal journeyman, the Redding, California native fought in various parts of the USA and even as far as the UK and Sweden in Europe. His biggest wins were against Joey Maxim whom he beat twice, the then undefeated Doug Jones and Jerry Quarry and veterans Brian London, George Scrap Iron Johnson, Nino Valdez, Tommy Jackson and Alonzo Johnson. He drew with Zora Folley and Cleveland Williams and lost in his prime only to the best as future and reigning world champs as Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Ingermar Johansson, Joe Frazier and Ernie Terell and to top rated heavies as Folley and Karl Mildenberger.
Regarded at one point in his career as the perfect fighting machine, the ex-convict Machen was generally a difficult fighter to tangle with in his best as evidenced by his wins over Jones and Quarry who resembled Evander Holyfield in style and warrior mentality.
It was chronicled that the Liston fight as well as the Frazier bout were closer than they appeared. Given that a best form, prime Machen will most likely also pose problems for Holyfield.
However, I think Holyfield will present a different challenge altogether for Machen with his athleticism, speed, toughness and endurance not to mention his underrated boxing skills as well as his ability to turn around or end a fight with a well placed blow.
Holyfield by UD or late round stoppage in a thrilling, action-packed contest.

Once again Teodor knocked it out of the park with a brilliant answer so I'm not going to even try to top it. I believe Holyfield would win because of his strength and punching power but by no means do I believe it would be an easy fight for him as Machen was very skilled and crafty and knew how to box as he showed against the dangerous Sonny Liston.
