Nino Benvenuti 1969 vs Marvelous Marvin Hagler 1983?
Nino Benvenuti 1969 fought a trilogy with Emile Griffith, winning the World Middleweight Title from Emile, on April 17,1967, by a unanimous decision, decking Griffith in round 9. Nino lost the title to Griffith on Sept 17,1967, by a unanimous decision. It was on March 4,1968, that Nino won the title back with a unanimous decision. He made title defenses against the likes of Don Fullmer, Fraser scott, and an 11th round TKO of Luis Rodriguez, on Nov 22,1969. He would reign as champion until Nov 7,1970, when Carlos Monzon of Argentina knocked him out in round 12 to win the title. On May 3,1971 Monzon stopped him in 3 rounds to retain the title in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Nino was a boxer, good movement, and a Gold medalist in the 1960 Rome Olympics. Marvelous Marvin Hagler failed in his first title shot at World Middleweight Champion Vito Antuofermo, on Nov 30,1979, fighting to a bloody 15 round draw, on Sept 28,1980, he literally destroyed World Middleweight Champion Alan Minter, England, to win the title. Hagler is a southpaw. Marvelous has defended against the likes of Tony sibson, Vito Antuofermo, and John The Beast Mugabi, among others. He lost a majority decision to Sugar Ray Leonard, on April 6,1987, and suffered the loss of his belt, and retired. Who would win and why?

Great question Irene. It's late now so I got to say goodnight and I will answer this tomorrow. Please keep it posted. Ok I'm home now and ready to answer. I liked Benvenuti and rooted for him when he fought the great Monzon years ago. He was an outstanding boxer and fought a high level of competition during his career. Marvin Hagler is considered by some the greatest middleweight Champ of all time even over Robinson and Monzon. Personally I rank Greb as the best followed by Robinson, Monzon and then Hagler. Hagler was a fierce and determined fighter with great boxing skills and outstanding power and nearly impossible to hurt. Here is a little rundown of each fighter:
Nino Benvenuti
Won: 82
Lost: 7
Draws: 1
KO's: 35
Jr Middle Champ from 1965-66
Middleweight Champ 1967, 1968-70
Best wins: W15 Emile Griffith, W15 Emile Griffith, W15 Don Fullmer, KO11 Luis Rodriquez
Marvin Hagler
Won: 62
Lost: 3
Draws: 2
KO's: 52
Middleweight Champ from 1970-77
Best wins: W10 Bennie Briscoe, TKO3 Alan Minter, TKO11 Mustafa Hamsho, KO6 Tony Sibson, KO10 Juan Roldan, TKO3 Thomas Hearns, KO11 John Mugabi
The fight
Benvenuti comes out boxing well but Hagler's punches are more effective and harder through the first couple of rounds. By round 5 Benvenuti's face is already showing the effects of Hagler's punches. In round 7 Hagler pushes Benvenuti against the ropes and throws a hard combination that nearly sends Benvenuti down but he somehow manages to last the round. In round 8 Hagler comes right after Benvenuti who fights back hard but in doing so is caught once again by some hard shots sending him reeling and down to the canvas this time and he is clearly hurt and he struggles to get to his feet at the count of 9. Hagler once again tears into him and Benvenuti has no answer as the referee does the wise thing and stops it.

You have to go together with Hagler. He's the proverbial "measuring stick" that is held to any great middleweight and his resume is just too good. The typhoon was once a rough, angry fighter whose prowess in the ring is inflated seeing that of his powerful existence story. He used to be not much of a boxer and sacrificed an excessive amount of safety for brute offense. Hagler had pace, energy, and an iron chin but he also had ring craft. He used his angles. I've by no means considered this query except now and this fight would certainly be motion packed however Marvin Hagler was a middleweight legend amongst middleweight legends. Gotta go along with Hagler by using KO.

Hagler would stop Benvenuti in less than 10 rounds.
I consider Hagler better than Monzon, and even though Hagler drew with Antufermo I saw the fight and thought Hagler won. Hagler lost some fights, but won the rematch in everyone, except Leonard who refused to fight him again.
Hagler was too strong and would apply constant pressure to over power Nino, just like Monzon did.
