No, this verse certainly hasn't been forgotten, although it is the subject of disagreement. Remember, even the best Christians don't take every command completely literally....otherwise most of us would be going around with one eye and one hand (Mark 9:47).

    1) First, this isn't a "law" per se. Christians aren't under the Law (of Moses) anymore, we are under grace.

    .

    2) Some Christians see this as a command given only to a specific time period/culture, when women participating in worship (many Christians having come out of Judaism) would not have been acceptable. Women at this time were also expected to wear veils over the tops of their heads during worship, and people greeted each other with the "holy kiss."

    3) Other Christians (like my denomination) still do not allow women to speak (preach authoritatively) in the church assembly, but allow them to lead the singing, read announcements, etc. Churches vary widely in their beliefs about women teaching adult men in Sunday school, at meetings, etc. Some Churches might even have a problem with me (a woman) talking about doctrine with an adult man.

    4) Other verses also make this verse more difficult to completely understand. (You NEVER take a verse alone without comparing it to other Bible verses, and there are other Bible verses about this issue.) 1 Cor 11:5 talks about the necessity of women covering their heads (with a veil) when "praying or prophesying" and the context of this seems to be within the worship assembly.

So, the question remains, is this a universal command or a 1st Century cultural one? Did women in some churches pray or prophesy in public? What did Paul mean when he said "speak"- did he mean simply talk? Did he mean to teach/preach authoritatively? Did he mean prophetic speaking?

The apologists (people who study the Bible extensively and logically) at Gotquestions have this to say, you might want to read it. http://www.gotquestions.org/women-silent-church.ht...

This verse is part of a particular example in a specific church. It was never meant as a general directive. This verse will never be forgotten on this website. What is forgotten is that there is only one "R" in forgotten. And, then there is the rest of the 4 chapters from which this example was ripped. Context is important if truth is important... .

"The characters in this book are purely fictional. Any similarities between them and real individuals are purely coincidental."

In the Bible the word church has different meanings , you just don't understand the basis for what this is teaching.
