Marvelous Marvin Hagler only fought Vito Antuofermo twice, not 3 times?
One of the bloggers in our yahoo boxing community,Joe Louis, insist that Marvelous Marvin Hagler fought Vito Antuofermo 3 times. That is incorrect, Hagler challenged Antuofermo on Nov 30,1979, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they fought to a bloody 15 round draw, Vito retained his World MiddleweightTitle. they fought a rematch at the Boston Garden's on June 13,1981, with Hagler stopping Vito on cuts in round 5, and retaining his World Middleweight Title. Also Carlos Monzon never made a short comeback to boxing, when he retired on August 29,1977, he stayed retired to pursue a motion picture career in Argentina. The Petronelli's who handled Hagler kept Marvelous Marvin away from Monzon until he retired, because they felt that Marvin lacked the experience to fight Carlos. But everyone seems to think that Hagler fought Antuofermo 3 times, not true. I have been following boxing since the ABC's Gillette Friday Nght Fights, in the 1960's.

OK, you are right. Hagler fought Antuofermo only twice. The first fight was one of the best fights I had ever seen. Maybe in the top ten of all time. A 15 round draw. A slugfest the whole way.
Their second fight was indeed stopped on cuts. Boxrec has it in round 5 but if I remember right it was stopped between rounds 4 and 5. I'm not sure how that would be ruled.
Monzone and Hagler's careers did overlap but they never fought each other. Carlos had 3 losses in his career and they were all by decision in his first 20 fights. Monzone went over 70 fights after his last loss before retiring. And NO comeback.
You didn't ask, but head to head I'd take Monzone to win a decision if these two ever fought in their primes.
