What does it feel like to have an NG tube put in?

My friend was diagnosed with anorexia and it's gotten really bad. She needs to be put on a feeding tube. She wants me to be there with her. What is It like? What does it feel like? When the fluid is being injected, do you feel it going down? Will they keep that tube In her all the time, or will they take it out and put it back in whenever they wanna feed her?

They lubricate the end of the NG tube and thread it up the nose and into the stomach. It doesn't hurt. If you start gaging then it's going down the right way. If you start coughing then it's going the wrong way and they will start the process again. No you don't feel the feed going down. They usually keep the tube in (well they did for me when i needed one) but depending on how long you have it, they will change the tube and the side of the nose it goes down every so often.
