Is it legal for your mortgage company to call your neighbors for information about you?

    If you haven't been paying and have moved out, yes.

    Normally a mortgage lender would not call concerning a client of theirs, it is against the law to divulge information about their clients to others. Mortgage lenders have many attorneys on their staff, and would not put their company in legal jeopardy by speaking with your neighbors.

    The mortgage and real estate field has come under so much scrutiny lately that this seem very unlikely, your mortgage company would make calls to your neighbors.

    Even if your neighbors were to call your mortgage company your mortgage lender would be prohibited from giving information to them about you or your mortgage loan.

    If this is happening you would have a cause for a law suit against your mortgage lender.

    If your mortgage lender is seeking information concerning you, they have this information on file. If they would want to know if you are living there they have individuals they have hired in major cities to knock on your door to find out if you are still residing there.

    This might be a scam, where someone has found out negative information or is seeking information about you and is saying they are your mortgage lender and is seeking information about you. This would be the case more so than a mortgage lender placing their company in a position to be sued.

    You might call your mortgage lender to find out if they are calling your neighbors.
