Anxiety and panic attacks....?

I have been diagnosed with bi polar and severe panic disorder yrs ago. I take lithium and xanax and have been for 7 yrs. I feel like my throat is closing up and the hot/cold flashes. I feel robbed. Driving is a trigger, being alone, these attacks have been more frequent and the meds feel like they are not working. The xanax just feels like it does not work. I have been prescribed cymbalta as well but have not taken it because I am scared because of some bad effects of other meds in the past. I am a full time college student about to graduate in June, I want my life back. I hate the feelings of dread, and I just feel like I should be able to have control of this better. ANyone have this problem or a solution?

I was diagnosed bipolar 13 years ago and I can tell you psychiatric meds are very tricky to maintain. You'll do fine on a particular drug for years and then suddenly it doesn't work anymore. It's happened to me many times. You need to see your psychiatrist and talk to them about changing you to a different anti-anxiety medication.

I can only go by my personal experience. I read a magazine in a doctors surgery once, that said that anxiety sufferers should try and encourage an anxiety attack to happen. It stated that most sufferers worry that an attack is going to happen and in turn create more anxiety. I suffered anxiety attacks a while after reading this and I used the technique and it worked for me. Look into it online. It could help you too. Good luck.
