New York City in winter?
I'm thinking of going there next winter, but I'm not sure what week (just one btw). I was thinking either the week of December 15 or the week of January 5 (I can't take in between these two weeks). My question is about accommodations, Is it going to be more expensive before Christmas than new year's eve, or the same?

The week of January 5th will be much cheaper than anytime in December. The cheapest time to visit is mid January through the end of February.

Ignore the guy who answered called Sir Fredrick. He's a 15 year old child from the Boston suburbs. He knows NOTHING about NYC, yet he keeps trying to answer questions about NYC, giving crazy misinformation!
It is very expensive here in December. However, after New Years, hotel prices tend to come down. The end of January and the month of February is certainly the cheapest time. But I don't know when, exactly, that transition in pricing begins to happen. January 5 might not be as cheap as January 31, for example. I just don't know.

Yes the prices will rocket in December but it's the most wonderful time of the year! You can go ice skating, see the big tree, so much holiday spirit and decor. If you have the money I would visit in December!

Dec 15 prices will be running high because of Christmas tourists. Check travelocity and hotwire for some real time examples, as well as hotels.com. That is a long time away, and you'll be glad to know that SOME hotels.com reservations are fully refundable, as long as you give enough notice and adhere to the conditions attached to your booking.

My friend, if you want to save some cash, I would recommend waiting until after New Years. That's when hotel price will drop and there are few visitors in the city.
Good luck
