Happy Birthday John Kay (Steppenwolf). What are your favorite songs?
John Kay, frontman of Steppenwolf, was born in East Prussia (Germany at the time, now part of Russia) on this date in 1944. In 1945, his mother had to flee from advancing Russian troops with baby John in bitter winter conditions. After the War, the family moved to Canada, and John made his way to California, forming Steppenwolf in 1967.

Great Canadian band, I first saw them as John Kay & The Sparrows when they played at our high school dance. Then they went on and became Steppenwolf.
