1. Cut down on red eating meat
2. Drive environmentally friendly personal vehicles, such as electric vehicles, or take mass transit, bike, or walk.
3. Purchase solar panels for your house,
4. Make recommendations to your mayor with ideas to help expedite green building proposals, create renewable district energy resources, and make programs such as green bin composting to help reduce solid waste.
5. Realize that anthropogenic global warming is a reality
a. Thermometers are not recording record lows globally and precipitation will increase in both warmer and colder climates with added warming. http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/
b. CO2 is heavier than air. However, there is this thing called wind that can send various gases to other various parts of the atmosphere. This is why we don't suffocate in an oxygenless lower atmosphere.
c. Ice caps melt in the summer and refreeze in the winter. However, the Arctic and Greenland ice sheets are measured during the minimum ice extent. This shows that the minimum ice extent per year is decreasing indicating those regions are warming. http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/
d. CO2 is good for plants to a point. Anything in excess is bad for a system. Ever heard of water poisoning? And the CO2 we exhale is already part of the biological carbon cycle. What the use of fossil fuels deals with is extraction of carbon from the geological carbon cycle and pumping back into the biological carbon cycle. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/CarbonCy...
e. Forest clearing is caused by many things. One of the major causes of forest clearing is not the government but developers.
f. The government did not find the 'missing polar bears' (WTF is this?) Polar bears have recovered from the 1950s low due to hunting restrictions placed on them but climate change is starting to have an effect on their lifestyles and eating habits. http://pbsg.npolar.no/en/status/status-table.html
g. Jennifer puts out a conspiracy theory with her point here. Ridiculous.
h. Volcanoes do not give off more CO2 than humans. The oceans, however, do. But natural CO2 emissions are offset by natural carbon sinks. Currently natural carbon sinks are absorbing more than the amount that are put out by natural sources and about half of what humans emit. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11638-climat...
i. Temperatures are also recorded by satellites and various other techniques. Merely because one does not understand how it is done does not mean it is false.
j. The ozone hole still exists. Ozone is formed in the stratosphere via the Suns interaction with oxygen molecules in that layer. When the Sun does not shine on specific parts of the globe for long periods of time due to the Earths tilt no new ozone is made and a decrease in concentration si seen. During these times chlorine based gases, which are man-made, can destroy ozone molecules and we see an 'ozone hole' which is a layer of ozone that falls below 220 dobson units. http://ozonewatch.gsfc.nasa.gov/
k. I can't be bothered to reply to the rest of Jennifer's falsehoods because I have run out of space but the rest of her points mainly fall under 'conspiracy theory'.

Look for a different motivation. You should live your life with as little environmental impact as possible regardless of whether the world is heating, cooling, or staying the same. Are you nice to your parents because you won't get as much at Christmas if you're not? Nothing in this world is free. There is an environmental cost of every item you use up or throw away, every action you take. Consider them and try to use the items with lower environmental impact, choose actions that decrease environmental damage. Folks have already given you a number of good specific actions to take. I'll add one that some people don't think of: buy fresh produce in season (that means learning when certain fruits and vegetables are normally harvested.) We used to not have certain produce available year round. In order to do that today, that produce is shipped from half way around the globe at great energy cost, or it is forced closer by, but with agricultural techniques that have a higher resource/energy cost than the "natural" produce. In a market economy, production is based on supply and demand. Decrease the demand, and grocers will end up decreasing their supply.

1) Travel the globe with Al Gore and tell people how they should reduce THEIR carbon footprint. When someone asks if it's hypocritical that you're flying around the globe, tell them that it's more important to spread the message of reducing carbon than actually doing it yourself. This probably won't reduce CO2 emissions but alarmists will feel good that someone is telling other people to reduce THEIR emissions.
2) Start a company that builds windmills. Lobby (bribe) politicians. Donate to their campaign and tell them that if they pass legislation to build government subsidized windmills that they can expect even bigger donations in the future.
3) Lobby politicians to set up a carbon offset scheme like they have in BC. Public organizations, that are funded by the taxpayer, have to pay $25 a metric ton for all the CO2 it emits. You then set up a dummy natural gas corporation and get paid NOT to drill. Basically you're just stealing taxpayer money but it's legal. It probably won't reduce much in the way of emissions but alarmist will feel good about how the government is "saving the planet".
4) Buy a solar panel.
5) Don't use the internet.

1. Reduce your requirement to use an automobile by choosing where your live so that you live close enough to work/school/shopping so that you can either walk or at least drive minimally. (Don't be a suburban commuter.)
2. Abandon motor sports, e.g., car/motorcycle/motorboat racing. Don't participate, don't watch.
3. Limit your use of air transport
4. Engage in energy efficiency at home since much electricity is coal generated, e.g., efficient light bulbs, less air conditioning, LED HDTV instead of the more power thursty LCD and plasma ones, scrap the 20 year old fridge in the basement
5. Lobby government to stop subsidies for fossil producers, enhance subsidies to renewable energy producers, and stop the Keystone XL pipeline to kill the business case for developing Canada's tar sands.

1. Lobby government and involved corporations to stop global geo-engineering now before we pass the point of no return, (if we havent already.)
2. Walk more or ride your bicycle.
3. Convert your car to hydrogen.
4. Grow grain crops instead of cutting your grass every weekend
5. Use Allan Savory's principles to reclaim the desert if you are a grazier in a risk area.

Jeff, people like Jennifer will never see the facts for what they are. They fail to realize that scientists are far more credible than the uneducated conspiracy theorists who feed them this crap on their blogs.
Scientists measure reality and analyze these measurements. ALL of these measurements demonstrate that the Earth IS warming due to HUMAN causes and scientists AGREE with this FACT.
Jennifer, do you also refuse to accept the fact of evolution? I'll bet you do.
Let me make it simple for you. Do you believe that cancer exists? Why? Because scientists have demonstrated that it exists? What if I were to say that cell growth is a normal part of life? All cells grow and replicate for an organism to survive, so cancer can't be dangerous.

1. Don't eat meat or vegetables. Meat comes from animals which release methane, which is a contributing cause to global warming. Vegetables are harvested by farmers with big tractors, which are bad for the environment.
2. Get rid of your car and bike everywhere. Cars are bad because they use gasoline and oil. They also release toxins into the environment that destroy the air.
3. Compost everything you have in your backyard. Its good because the rotting food and stuff that decomposes rejuvenates the soil. Also, a bit less waste into the landfills.
4. Don't use your AC and heater in your house. It might break and release freon which is bad for the environment.
5. Realize that global warming doesn't actually exist for some simple, obvious reasons:
a. Thermometers are recording record lows and more blizzards than normal. That means its colder.
b. CO2 is heavy, and can't actually rise up enough to reach the atmosphere. The "greenhouse effect" is from water vapor, which can rise up there and reflect heat back down. Water vapor isn't dangerous at all. It's what clouds are made of.
c. The ice caps are melting because its summer, and ice melts when temperatures rise. Its due to the way the earth (hemisphere) is tilted towards the sun. They'll freeze again towards winter. When it gets cold again.
d. CO2 is actually good for the environment- plants need it to grow and release oxygen back into the environment for us to breathe. We also release carbon dioxide. It happens.
e. Forest clearing is caused by the government. Private forest owners do cyclical cutting and growing so as not to destroy the forest's economical value.
f. The government found the "missing polar bears- due to global warming" had merely migrated away to a different food source.
g. The government owns lots the companies that make a lot of the "green" energy products- causing all the worry is very good for their business.
h. Natural land sources (like volcanoes and oceans) give off more CO2 than humans can produce.
i. Temperature data fluctuates greatly- it can't be relied on to give accurate results.
j. The "ozone layer is being destroyed" scare from a few years ago was proven to be false- it actually healed itself and wasn't caused by man-made things.
k. NASA faked global warming data by using a previous month's temperatures to make October seem hotter than it really was.
l. Sunspots reduce the warming radiation from the sun. It goes in a cycle and doesn't actually cause global warming.
m. Al Gore and others have made millions of global warming, and certainly don't practice what they preach.
n. We truly have no idea what the earth temperature's were like thousands of years ago. We can't compare today's data with made up data to prove a point- except that the people who are doing it are idiots.
o. Have you actually seen any direct effects of "global warming"?
