Bad Controler on Hard Drive?
Last week I asked a question about retrieving data off an external hard drive that my computer could see, but not open. Today I'm told they couldn't access and thought it was a bad controller. I told them it's okay to try and repair it. Now I am worried I made a bad decision. I'm not worried about the drive, I'm worried about the data.

Most of the times this condition: an external hard drive that my computer could see, but not open, is the external hard drive is left in an open state most of the time. This happens with external USB Devices. People do not know about this kind of malfunction because it is not common knowledge and not shared with other people.
Here is the thing that tells me they know nothing about hard drives: "thought it was a bad controller"

Depends on who you took it to?
There are many places that can do retrieval of data even if the drive has bad components. They can even take the platters out.
All depends on where you took it to?
