Whats the difference in eclipse spyders?

So, my boyfriend is getting me an eclipse spyder for my 18th birthday. I prefer the older ones, not 2007+. Obviously, the 2001-2002s are so much cheaper. But the 2003-2005 are so much more expensive! I can't tell too much of a difference from the outside. So, what's the difference between the early 2000's and later 2000's (2003-2005)? I did realize, i think, that the 2005 has more mpg. But that's the only thing i realized. Help??

2000-2002 have a "square mouth" grill with foglights mounted in front of the radiator.

2003-2005 have a "fish mouth" grill with foglights molded into the bumper itself. The tailights are also different in the rear. The turn signals are amber and the light itself is "carbon fiber grey" in color.

    Some slight corrections to make.

    2000-2005 GS is a 147hp 2.4L

    2000-2005 GT is 210hp 3.0L

    2003-2005 GTS is 215hp 3.0L

Real world driving between the two ironically nets around the same MPGs. My GS A/T at the time would get 29mpg. A friend's GT A/T would get 27.9mpg. 65mph cruising for 50+mile trips.

The only real difference in the third generation Eclipse and Spyder is the minor face lift in 2003. Otherwise, the engines are all the same:

The 2000-2005 Eclipse GS Spyder has a 150hp 2.0l 4cylinder engine while the Eclipse GT Spyder has 200 hp from a 3.0l V6.

The GS Spyder would definitely get more mpg than the GT Spyder, but the 2000-2002 GS Spyder would get the same mpg as a 2003-2005 GS Spyder....etc.

physique styling is the comparable. GS is the front-wheel stress base type, no rapid, one hundred 40 hp. The GST and the GSX is the rapid fashions, 210 hp. GST is front-wheel stress and the GSX is all-wheel stress.
