Drinking alcohol from lead cups?
Hi,
I heard a rumor about the origins of the word 'wake' (as in a funeral wake) and etymology aside I didnt believe the fact! t=The basis of It said:
Drinking alcohol from lead cups used to knock people out, sometimes for many hours or days!!!
My question is:
i) What would be the effects of drinking strong alcohol (whiskey etc) out of a lead cup on the human body? (If it was done on a regular basis)
ii) Would it even be possible for lead + alcohol to knock you out for a day/s?
Thanks

Wakes have nothing to do with drinking alcohol our of lead cups. Wakes are held the day before the funeral (as opposed to viewings, which are held the day of) and generally consist of people standing around and telling each other stories about the dead person. Alcohol is consumed at some wakes, but insofar as I know never out of lead anything. laughter is acceptable at wakes. A traditional wake would take place in a persons home, and it's meant too be a celebration of the life gone.
Drinking wine out of a lead cup is a fine way to find out what a real wake is like, from the point of view of the corpse. The lead settles in your system, and prevents it from working correctly, enough can and will kill you.
