It might be more of an age thing. We old people grew up saying POP for soda pop(ular).

Source(s): POP goes the weasel (joke)

Well up north like pretty much the whole north side says Pop (I'm from Iowa so I say Pop)

The south says Soda or Coke. (I live in Texas.)

Not just the Midwest, although my buddy from Idaho says pop. Up where im from (Buffalo NY) it is said as well. Not sure about the New England area or other surrounding places.

People I knew from PA said "pop", but it's hard to tell if that's a Pennsylvania thing because most of them were in the military and could have picked it up anywhere.
