Why does Minecraft run slowly on my computer?
Here is my specs:
ZOTAC GTX 580 3GB (stock clocks)
AMD Athlon X4 640 @ 3.00 Ghz
8GB 1600 Mhz RAM
I run Minecraft on Fancy at ~60FPS. I have tried using Optifine without ANY increase in FPS. I hear about people running Minecraft with my kind of GPU at 200-300 FPS, and I think that having bought a £350 GPU, I should have some headroom for those beautiful Minecraft shader mods.
Any Suggestions?

1. Are you sure Optifine is installed? I tried to install it but it didn't work. To test if Optifine is actually installed, press the left control button. It should zoom in if Optifine is installed correctly. If it is not installed, try using Kovacic's mod pack. It is a good mod pack.
2. Try running on Fast graphics.
3. Allocate more RAM to the Java Runtime Environment. To do this on Windows XP, go to Start>Control Panel>Java>View>click on View...>and type in this EXACTLY: -Xmx1024m
You can change the 1024 to about 1 to 2 thirds of your RAM.
