Dye hair with Kool-Aid?? Only responses from expierenced.?

So, i'm going to be dying my hair red with kool aid because it is cheap. I know how to do it, but do I really have to sleep with it in overnight? Or can I just leave it in a few hours and blow dry it. What can I do to not have to sleep in it? & NO smart responses. I'm doing this because my mom isn't going to spend money on $10-$20 hair dye, and have me not like it.

Kool Aid will totally work, but it is a pain in the butt! Let me walk you through the process I've used, since I know that works.

First off, good job picking red. Colors like blue and purple and green don't stay in as well.

You're going to need at least 10 packets of Kool Aid, and make sure you buy the little packets - the big packets already have the sugar mixed in, and that will just make a sticky mess.

Assemble your hair dye tools. You'll need a bowl for the dye, a tint brush (This comes in SOOO handy and makes the process super easy), and Vaseline or baby oil. I think it goes without saying that you will want to wear a shirt you don't care too much about.

Rub the baby oil (or Vaseline) all around your hair line. Get your forehead, ears, neck, behind your ears, and onto the tops of your shoulders. It's cool to have red hair, it is not cool to be covered in reddish pink splotches.

Empty all your Kool Aid packets into your empty bowl. If you have long hair, you will need a lot of Kool Aid packs. Add water to your dye VERY SLOWLY. You are only going to be adding a few DROPS of water. It should be almost a paste. If you add too much water, the color will be really light.

Mix the Kool Aid into a syrup. Once it is all combined, part your hair. Part down the center, like for pig tails, and then part each section from the top of your ear to your center part. You hair should now be split into 4 sections.

Apply the color using the tint brush. After each section has been thorughly saturated with dye, use a clip to stick it to the top of your head.

After your hair is completely saturated, bust out your blow dryer and dry your hair on high heat until it is stiff. When you're done, it is going to feel like you have a TON of gel or hairspray in your hair. It's going to be very, very stiff.

I DID sleep in my dye, but it might not be necessary, since the heat from the hair dryer opens the hair follicle, allowing the colorant to enter. You don't have to do this step, but the longer you leave it in, the better your color retention will be.

When you rinse it, rinse using very cool water, and try to keep the water from running down your face too much, or you'll get a pink face. Try to use shampoo very sparingly because this is not a permanent dye. You will lose some dye every time you wash, and your towels and pillow cases will be pinkish, but it's a fun thing to do, and cheap, so why not?

    Also, it smells pretty good!

I died my hair with Kool-Aid last June and let me just preface this by saying there is STILL color in my hair.

    What I did:

Mix 2 packets of Kool-Aid (MAKE SURE ITS SUGAR FREE!!!) with 3 cups of water in a pan

    Boil it on the stove

Once it gets to boiling pour it into another bowl (one that won't get too hot)

Dip the part of your hair that you want to dye in the HOT Kool-Aid for 5-8 minutes depending on how dark your hair is.

Then take it out of the bowl and gently squeeze out the excess from your hair with ta paper towel

Don't shower for about a day or two

AND TA DAH!!!! You have died hair

When you shower for the first few times your hair will bleed all over the place- don't worry the color will still be there

Be careful dying your hair with Kool-Aid. I've done this before and sometimes it turns out like you want it, but most of the time, it won't. I wouldn't chance it, and spend a little more to buy a true hair dye. Good luck!

Do not do that!! Get a normal hair dye! I do have experience with dying my hair 4 times. I'd recomend ddon't dye it all and embrace your natural color since it'll save your hair from some future damage
