Is it possible to get chlamydia from birds?

It has already been mentioned that this does not refer to the STD Chlamydia. The organism that birds (and many other animals) carry is so different that it has been reclassified and is now in a separate genus called "Chlamydophila".

If she is concerned then a mask would be more appropriate then gloves. It tends to infect people who have compromised immune systems. If she does develop flu-like symptoms then it would be worth mentioning to her doctor that she works with birds.

Yes it is possible but not too probable unless you have an infected bird. It is an airborn disease and is not the same strain as sexually transmitted chlamydia. It is treated with antibiotics. It is more an upper respitory infection but it can get serious. My immediate family and I have been around parrots for over 50 years and have never contracted it and neither have any other parrot owners I know.

I don't think birds carry chlamydia if thats the case we all would have it by now. Numerous of people hold and carry birds. So I don't know. This is the first time me hearing about birds carrying a sexual transmitted disease. O.o I'm assuming thats a myth.

It is a myth that condoms prevent an STD. The only way to prevent an STD is to practice abstinence.
